Mahtab Jalal is from Ghazni, Afghanistan. She is currently studying Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Economics at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. She is originally from Afghanistan, where she initially started activism for peacebuilding and non-violence. She was an Afghan Peace Volunteers and Book Cottage Afghanistan member contributing to educating children through storybooks and arts. She is passionate about having a peaceful, inclusive, and equitable society in which women can also actively participate in major decision-making. Alongside her study majors, Mahtab is interested in reading about Peace and Conflict Resolution, Women and Economy, Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS), and Globalization and Multiculturalism.

She is currently working as Membership Coordinator for Afghan Youth Ambassadors for Peace Organization (AYAP).
